New Zealand holiday packages from Australia

New Zealand is the easiest big trip an Australian can take, and the one most worth doing properly. This page has everything you need to plan it from Australia: every direct flight route, when to come, what suits a one week hop versus a two week loop, and itineraries with accommodation, transport and activities arranged before you land. Prices show in Australian dollars, quotes are free, and a real person in New Zealand does the planning.

1.48 million Australians visited New Zealand last year.

More than any other country, by a long way (Stats NZ, September 2025 year). It makes sense: no other overseas holiday starts with a three hour flight, no visa paperwork, the same side of the road and the same power sockets.

3 hours from the east coast

Sydney to Auckland is about 3 hours 10 minutes. Even Perth to Auckland is under 7, and every mainland capital has a direct flight.

No visa, no NZeTA

Australian citizens need only a passport. (Australian permanent residents who are not citizens need the free-to-apply NZeTA.)

Your licence works here

Same side of the road, and your Australian driver licence is valid for the length of your holiday. Self drive is the easiest it will ever be.

Same plugs, easy roaming

New Zealand uses the same power sockets as Australia, and most Australian mobile plans include affordable trans-Tasman roaming.

2 hours ahead

New Zealand is 2 hours ahead of AEST. No jet lag in either direction, so day one of your holiday is a real day.

Prices in AUD

Every price on this site displays in Australian dollars, and your written quote is fixed before you pay anything.

Direct flights from Australia to New Zealand

The Tasman is one of the busiest international corridors in the world. Every mainland capital has a nonstop, the main routes fly every day of the week, and Queenstown now has direct flights from four Australian cities, so a South Island trip no longer needs a connection in Auckland.

Frequencies are typical southern summer schedules and ease back slightly in winter outside the ski weeks. Schedules move around, so treat this as a planning guide and check the airline for your dates. Checked October 2025.

When should Australians visit New Zealand?

The seasons match yours, just a touch cooler and a lot more mountainous. There is no bad month, only different trips, and the smart money is usually one shoulder either side of the school holidays.

December to February

Summer peak

Warmest weather, longest days, everything open. Both countries take holidays at once, so flights and the best lodges book out 4 to 6 months ahead. Book early rather than paying peak-of-peak prices late.

March to May

Autumn, our pick

Settled weather, Central Otago turning gold, and shoulder prices on flights and rooms. School goes back in February and the difference in crowds is immediate.

June to September

Ski season

Queenstown, Wanaka and Canterbury fields are a shorter trip than most Australians think, with more reliable snow than home. The July school holidays are the peak inside the peak; June and September ski weeks cost noticeably less.

October to November

Spring value

Waterfalls at full power, lambs everywhere, and the last properly quiet weeks before summer. November is the month experienced travellers quietly choose.
